True Slow Flow for Newborns (2008-09-04)
I have a 6 week old daughter who was prone to choking on milk, be it from bottle or breast. I had been using several different types of bottles with slow flow nipples but the only ones that she did not choke with were these Playtex Ventaire Advanced bottles. She never chokes (and therefore doesn't stress Mommy and Daddy out anymore!) on milk from these bottles and we use them exclusively now. The nipples are key here: they really are slow flow, meaning, if you turn the bottle upside-down it won't even drip. Not all slow flow nipples are the same, in fact, most of them are disappointingly fast for a newborn.
I also like these because they are wide, easy to put scoops of formula in them without having to aim perfectly like in standard bottles. The nipple is more like a mother's nipple because it is wide. And the vent system really does work to reduce, if not, eliminate gas problems! My baby hardly even burps after a feeding because she's not swallowing air!
The only drawback is that there are those extra pieces to clean but for me it is well worth not having to see my baby's face turn blue from choking. I don't mind cleaning them at all!
