Preferable to a stroller in crowded public areas, this child carrier holds baby right next to a parent at a comfortable level for viewing her surroundings. Unlike many other carriers, this one balances baby on one hip instead of directly in front of the body. The benefits are that it is easier to walk or do household tasks without baby’s legs limiting Mom’s motion or her body blocking Mom’s reach. In addition, the side-carrying design is much easier on the back. The Hip Hammock can be converted to rest on either hipâ€"and rotating sides is recommended to avoid placing too much stress on one side. The carrier adjusts to fit Mom or Dad by cinching the waist strap and padded shoulder strap, which can easily be done with one hand, and closing the sturdy buckles. Baby faces inward and rests comfortably against the soft Microfleece lining. A wide leg area gives baby’s legs decent freedom of movement and a back rest provides additional upper body support for baby or folds down and out of the way. The Hip Hammock features a toy hook on the shoulder strap that holds a pacifier or teething toy and a key chain that dangles from the waist strap to conveniently keep track of keys. This carrier has a durable quilted exterior fabric that holds up through several children and rolls up compactly for travel. The Hip Hammock is designed for older babies that weigh between 15 and 35 pounds. --Cristina Vaamonde

Customer Reviews

Great for on the go, running errands, and folds down small for easy storage in your diaper bag! (2010-06-25)
I LOVE baby carriers... I have the Baby Bjorn Active, the Ergo Baby, and a Moby Wrap. My biggest complaint about all 3 of those has been they are huge when it's off your body and your baby is not in it. I found if I was going somewhere with my baby in a carrier, once I got to my destination, I now had this bulky lump of fabric, straps, and buckles to carry around. They are too big to fit in my diaper bag. I was looking for something simple and folds down small so I could not only put it in my diaper bag when I get somewhere... I can actually store it in my diaper bag so I have a carrier where ever I go! It never fails you decide to run into the store holding your baby, but you end up doing more shopping than you expect, and now you have a dead arm carrying your tot around. This hip carrier rolls up into itself, it fits in your bag so you always have a carrier with you for those unexpected situations! I do have to say, this hip carrier is not as comfortable as the Ergo. I couldn't imagine carrying her in this for more than an hour - My baby is 20 lbs and I can carry her in the Ergo for up to 4 hours! I highly recommend this carrier as a back-up carrier for busy on the go moms!

Hip Hammock (older version) (2010-04-15)
I have been trying to purchase the newer model of this hip hammock but it is proving very difficult to locate. The seller was very prompt in shipping, what I would soon discover was the older version, and very understanding about my wanting to return it. They even went out of their way to try and locate the version I wanted. All transactions with the seller were prompt, attentive and courteous.

Hurts my neck (2009-11-25)
I like the idea of this sling, but the strap kept digging into my neck and since I have an arm around behind my baby, my arm and shoulder began hurting. I think it's great for quick chores around the house like when you're trying to wash a pan and your baby wants "Up!", but other than that it would hurt wearing it.

Life Saver (2009-08-18)
I use this every day and LOVE IT! Once you get it adjusted perfect and situated on your body, it is very, very comfortable. It is also super easy to put on and take off with one hand and a sleeping baby. My daughter is a small 9 month old. She used to nurse and rock to sleep, but now I just put her in this and she is asleep much quicker. She will be fussy and crying, and as soon as I put her in this, she falls right to sleep. I have another sling and it doesn't hold her the same way. This is the first review of a product I have ever written. Thank God for a product that is so great, and affordable!!

this helped me survive a deployment! (2009-08-14)
I would give this 10 stars if I could! When my husband deployed last year, I had 4 kids at home-- a 6, 4, & 2 year old, plus a 3 month baby. I used this product daily with the baby, and it gave me my hand back. (You know, the one you lose while you hold your baby during the first year?) I did everything while wearing this carrier....washed dishes, folded laundry, went house hunting out of state, and even MOVED! I really think having the Hip Hammock kept me from putting my poor baby in the bouncy seat all day. I could keep her close to me WHILE I did all those other things I had to do.

I can see why others would say that this product hurts your back and/or neck. But, with four kids....I've tried all of them and this one was the least uncomfortable with an older baby. And, they're ALL going to hurt your back and neck--you're lugging around an extra 15+ pounds--but this one hurt the least. I'm 4'11, and many of those other carriers seemed too big for me, but this one adjusted enough even for someone of my short size.

I should also add that this isn't for an infant. Your baby needs to be able to securely keep his/her head held up--probably not before 4 months. But, for those fussy times when he's not wanting to be without mom, this will certainly settle him down and let your do all those never ending mom jobs.

This is my favorite thing to give moms who are having their 2nd baby. I highly recommend this product.
